Singing Hymns at Home- Free Family Hymnal

Over the past few months, we have talked a lot about the importance of family worship, and the importance of that including singing. One thing that was missing in our family worship, was the ability for our early readers to follow along and sing hymns with us. We own a few different hymnals and love them all, but they can be quite difficult for an early reader to follow. The idea of following the music one line at a time down the page, then going back to the top is counter-intuitive to how they are taught to read. I created our hymn book to make it easier for kids to follow along with singing. I chose 52 hymns for our family to learn this year, one a week, and put them in a format that is easier for kids to follow. You can download that for free here.

Many people wonder why we need to sing hymns. I have been mulling over a post for months on the importance of hymns and why we can not lose the old hymns. Luckily, I found a YouTube video that does a great job talking about the history of hymns and a bit about why we should still sing hymns. It is a wonderful watch if you are interested in the history of hymns and worship music in American churches.

Leave a comment below letting us know if your kids find it hard to follow along to a song in a hymnal.
